Jasper
Jasper is a special kitty who loves going outside.
We asked his mum, Shaylyn, to tell us all about him.
Tell us the story about how Jasper came into your family.
It's actually quite personal - but my little brother passed away this year.
I was wanting a cat for awhile, but I hadn't picked one out from a local shelter yet. The week after he passed away I went to a local shelter to be around the animals (animals always help me when I'm sad).
The first cat I saw was this black cat, around 10 months old. He was purring and when I picked him up I knew I was going to have to take him home.
My brother always talked about wanting a black cat when he was little, so it felt like it was meant to be.
Tell us the story behind Jasper's name?
When my sister and I were younger, we had 2 cats on our acreage.
My brother always wanted one but he was too young - he always talked about how he wanted a black cat named Jasper when he was older.
So when I adopted Jasper, I knew that had to be his name.
What is Jasper's favourite thing to do?
SLEEP!
Well, sleep and to go for walks of course.
Jasper also loves to nibble on our toes when we are trying to sleep (he's a night owl).
What kind of adventures does Jasper like to go on?
He loves to go biking in his Petsfit backpack!
That way he can sleep or look outside and look at all the exciting things depending on his mood.
He also loves just being outside and hanging out in a park.
Why did you decide to train Jasper?
He decided!
He would constantly look outside and meow and I knew there was a part of him that wanted to just be outside, so I bought a leash and harness and that's how it all started!
What has been the most rewarding part of having a catexplorer?
I think its just having a cat in general!
The adventure part was all Jasper's choice.
What advice would you give other humans training their catexplorer?
Don't rush anything!!
It took us over a month to get Jasper even adjusted to wearing a harness but since he started associating it with going outside, it became a positive thing!

And any box we get from Costco! (his favourite thing to play with)
