Helga

Helga is an adventure kitty who is super relaxed in a kayak on the water.

Helga loves discovering new things - but in her own time.

Sometimes it's full speed ahead.

Sometimes we take it slow, sniff everything, lying down to just watch the world around us.

What is Helga's favourite toy?

It's a light blue Boink.

Apparently this light blue one is better than the ones she has in other colours...

What kind of adventures does Helga go on?

Everything we can! We go hiking, kayaking, bicycling, camping (in campervan)...

Tell us about your most memorable adventure

Ooooh.. I have many fantastic memories...

Some time ago we went kayaking together.

I was just amazed at this little kitty when she sits up front of the kayak, dragging her paws in the water. She looked so relaxed and at ease with being out on the water.

Why did you decide to train Helga?

It just started out as a way to help her drain energy...

My plan was to mostly take her to the communal garden or a nearby park. She had other plans...

Taking your cat adventuring is an amazing thing to do together. I am a strong believer of that it will make my cat healthier and happier.

How did you train Helga?

We started training with a harness when I got her.

Playing with it indoors, and then slowly moving outdoors. Just a few minutes more and more each time...

When we went to the forest the first time, it was just amazing to see her look around, discovering the world around her with such curiosity.

What has been the most rewarding part of having a catexplorer?

To have a companion with me at all times.

It has also made me slow down and enjoy the moment and the nature.

The joy of seeing her jumping around, climbing trees and discover yet another stone wall.

What has been the hardest?

Finding places that are calm enough for us to adventure without people or dogs. It usually means early mornings...

Also, actually finding some equipment has been a struggle.

We are yet to find a proper backpack - with enough space for the cat, as well as at least some basic packing for the day.

I eventually found an excellent harness brand and the leash I made myself... but why does it need to be so tricky?

In hindsight, what would you do differently?

It would have been great for Helga to meet other people and dogs - but that's not her so I don't really know if I could change that.

She comes and says hello when she's ready, but not before that.

What advice would you give other humans training their catexplorers?

Take the time your cat needs to feel comfortable.

Don't rush it if you are not sure your cat is OK - so be attentive!

Is there another Catexplorer that inspires you?
