Kiwi

Kiwi loves hiking and getting to the parts of trails where humans can't go.

What is Kiwi's favourite thing to do?

Sleep, scratch his post, hike in the mountains on a trail, lay in the sun

What is his favourite food?

Kiwi eats everything from raw liver to trader Joe's wet food

Where does Kiwi go on his adventures?

Mountains, the beach, lakes....no matter where we are, we do the best on defined narrow trails

Tell us about your most memorable adventure

The day Kiwi didn't understand how short his leash was and as a result accidentally jumped into a lake.

He wanted to get out and just kept hiking once he was back on dry land.

Why did you decide to train Kiwi?

Where I live there are lots bald eagles, they have a bad history with the domestic cat population.

So Kiwi is only allowed to go outside on a leash with humans.

How did you train Kiwi?

We bought a harness and tried taking him to different places.

During our second trip we learned that narrow trails are the best place for a catexplorer.

What has been the most rewarding part of having a catexplorer?

Seeing him get to the top of trails that many humans can't even get too

What has been the hardest?

Handling loud sounds....

Kiwi doesn't like loud wind, pumpkin guns, and cement trucks....We have had bad experiences with all of those things.

In hindsight, what would you do differently?

Check how high the winds are going be when we go out, when camping have Kiwi sleep in the car...he is alert all night with all the outdoor sounds.

What advice would you give other humans training their catexplorers?

The best places to start are narrow trails away from cars, dogs and lots of people.

Is there another catexplorer that inspires you?

So many of the cats I follow on Instagram... Nikki is very good
